I would just like to record that this topic was begun by Andy Bolger (message 2945). It is never far away when Andy is around - I spent nearly a week with him cruising around Falmouth in Black Jack David which, at 16 foot has room for a fair sized cockpit, but not a lot else. The sleeping accommodation is coffin-sized, the galley and heads non-existent. Every morning was a rush ashore to pursue Mr Bolger's most renowned activity, and I quote him: "I could defecate for England". I note that in recent email correspondence, he has taken to referring to himself as "Andrew Bulger" and can only conclude from this that he has begun some serious training towards his aspirations for an England cap. And this man is inviting innocents to share the Sea Scouts hut with him at Rudyard..!

Another Falmouth holiday was when a South Western Tar very kindly let my family use his 35-foot, 1949-built motor ketch as a houseboat which he anchored for us just off Place, opposite St Mawes on the Percuil River. He later wrote an article entitled The Call of Nature which contains the memorable observation:
"Most people [re sailors] seem to have a remarkably strong attraction to pubs. This allows useful access to lavatories, but alas tends to promote demand as well as relieving it."

My reply to his piece, which contains all my thoughts on the subject, may be read by clicking on the highlighted text, though I should warn you that it's scatology of the worst kind. I used to ask my parents the same question as everyone else here, when I was about 3. In my case, it was not about Swallows and Amazons but about the Lone Ranger and Tonto. (for some reason Silver escaped my curiosity)
