The (Manchester) Guardian has opened its Digital Archive - at present it contains scans covering the period 1821-1975 (and 1900-1975 for the Observer)

One can get a Free Day Pass and search for "Arthur Ransome".

Lots of wonderful stuff, articles, reviews, adverts etc .. and a few oddities :

An address on "The history of the Manchester and Salford Sanitary Association, or half a century's progress in sanitary reform" was delivered by Dr. Arthur Ransome.
