It never ceases to amaze me how the daily perusal through the erudite halls of TarBoard continues to be educational on so many topics, which, in a few examples, actually includes the writings of Arthur Ransome. To one that is truly American in cultural upbringing, the fascination of alien concepts reflecting that other culture of the Mother Country continues to educate and expand my own somewhat limited horizons.
Today a new artifact of that other society on the eastern shore of the Big Pond appeared and got my attention. Andrew spoke of "Fifth Form" which serves only to puzzle my colonial mind, not having heard of the first four forms yet either. Perhaps some patient soul could define these "forms" in terms that perhaps even an American could understand.
I have heard of "the Fifth Amendment" (now that's something Americans know about) and a "fifth of Scotch" but the "fifth form" escapes me just as the reason back of the fireworks seen back during the first week of November while watching a few clips from the BBC, which I understand are to immortalize some "Guy."
Truly the TarBoard comes along with its wealth of learned contributors to teach us all who strive to understand All Things Ransome.
