does she identify the location of Swallowdale?
No, but she has an interesting and revealing time searching for it. The fact that she comes to the tentative conclusion that, like PD, Swallowdale has elements of fantasy, doesn't mean that the book isn't very interesting indeed. Don't let the absence of an 'X' for Swallowdale put you off.
And her search for Swallowdale leads her to the near-metaphysical conclusion that after all, even though he drew extensively on his own experience of real places an and people, AR was writing fiction.
For me, one of the most pleasing aspects of 'Captain Flint's Trunk' is that, to get around on the lakes, Hardyment used a sailboard. And it was jolly cold... Despite her several children, who are waiting for the holidays to come and join her, there's an element of youthful enthusiasm and adventure that nicely chimes in with the original books.
