I think it might be below your 'really big waterfall'with the cave somewhere on 'the steep rock face'. ( I think somewhere at the point of transistion between the merely 'steep' and the 'rock face' itself.)On the two occasions I've visited the Ghyll I've takenthe route outlined by Brian Evans in his "Scrambles in the Lake District", starting at the foot bridge and following the beck up, avoiding a waterfall either by a short vertical rock pitch on the right (true left) or by 'slippery ledges' (to quote Evans) on the left. After a short while you emerge at a forking of the beck in a deep cleft. You can get out either by a scrambley sort of walk on the left or by a scrambley sort of rock climb by the side of the waterfall straight on/ rightish passing the prominent cave (old adit). The cleft is my SD3.1 and I sincerely hope that my memory isn't shown to be embarassingly astray!
