I get into a lot of trouble for being departed whilst physically present.

Don't worry John, it happens to me too!

What is the electrical energy required to separate carbon from the two oxygen elements

The C=O double bond in CO2 has a bond energy of 187 kcal/mole.

how would you do it most efficiently?

  1. Don't knock off both oxygen atoms. One will do. CO is a very useful feedstock for the manufacture of plastics and fuel.
  2. Use sunlight (100% renewable energy source) for as much of the process as practicable. See here for some promising new research.

Have just seen The Golden Compass film. It's very well done and quite faithful to the book. But the book is better.
