Not to be contrary, but I actually didn't mind the lack of physical resemblance. I've heard the same complaint used against the BBC/A&E version of "Pride & Prejudice", too --that none of the Bennett sisters look like they could actually be sisters-- but when I thought about it, I realized that the un-related appearances of the characters (in both films) made it much easier to identify them as soon as they came on screen. It was sort of the visual equivalent of a writer using a different first letter for the name of each of his characters --Anne, Eliza, and William, say-- so that the instant the reader's eye hits the first letter they know who they're dealing with. It allows the reader --or viewer, in the case of film-- to concentrate on the story instead of on keeping track of who's who.
