The Flashman stories are quite popular among some American readers of my (internet) acquaintance. However, I think that I lost interest a number of books ago. He is a mildly entertaining way of learning some unusual aspects of history.

On the subject of Reading Lists for Children, here is the Daily Telegraph's selection of the 100 Books every child should read. Lots of classics as well as some newer ones. I found that i have read a good number but by no means all. And yes you will find Ransome.
