Yesterday, I was in a very good independent bookstore, with a very gooe children's section. The (very helpful) assistant had not heard of Ransome. I sang his praises, though, so let's hope for another convert. She did point out to me a couple of new and very enjoyable books.

The Penderwicks, by Jeanne Birdsall is a family adventure story set in summertime. It reminds me of some of Elizabeth Enright's work, such as The Saturdays.

Enola Holmes series, by Nancy Springer is about Sherlock and Mycroft's much younger sister.
