I can put it up on my website AR area for people to download...

Three million cheers! That's very generous of you Dave.

This text is so central to understanding the sailing jargon in the S & A series that it deserves to be close at hand at all times. By choosing it asthe sailing manual used by both John and Dick, AR all but tells us to buy the book ourselves.

So long as there's not a copyright problem of course. I don't believe there should be.

The relevant legislation is the UK, 1988 Copyright, Designs and Patents Act. This states the duration of protection for literary, dramatic, musical or artistic works as 70 years from the end of the calendar year in which the last remaining author of the work dies.

E.F. Knight was the author and he drew the pictures and diagrams. I believe was killed in 1904. I guess that whoever scanned the text and photographs and coded the HTML for the erstwhile TARS Literary Pages could claim they were the author of the derivative work and claim copyright to that. But surely the AR e-community is sufficiently small and recent for it to be possible to track down and ask this person for permission?
