Another difference between American and British English is the use of the word one, as in One should always water one's flowers. In the States, they would say, "One should water his (or their) flowers. Not complaining about this, you understand, just making an observation. What I do find unsettling though, is the overuse of you. When someone is recounting an experience he has just had, he will go on at length, ". . . you felt very bad. . . . you heard a sudden noise, etc." when the speaker means, "I felt very bad . . . I heard a sudden noise."
