thinking of you as one of John Buchan's "Gorbals Die-Hards.

Alas not me, but there was an original Jock whose surname was Fraser.
'Jock' Fraser was a graduate of Conway, held a master's ticket and later
worked for the marine instrumentation division of Smiths Industries.
He owned Freddie's Gift, a 'triple' Thames Skiff, which he kept at
Richmond on Thames. In the 60's he would organise an annual Whitsun
cruise - up the Grand Union canal, down the Oxford and back down the
Thames - and a summer cruise - up the Thames as far as Cricklade (the
original head of navigation) and back down again. In later years Jock
aquired a 40 ft narrowboat called Cyclops in which he cruised the canals.
A near replica of Freddie called Rosamond has been built by Mark Edwards
of Richmond Bridge Boathouses one of Jock's original crew. I adopted
the moniker 'Jock' to keep the memory of the original Jock alive, and also
in the hope that I might find some of his other crew members resident on
TarBoard.

_______________

There are no public AR links, but several private ones. Jock taught me my
boatmanship skills, which gave me a whole new slant on AR's sailing books.
For a time he kept Rowan a clinker lugsail dinghy at Teddington Lock in
which I polished my sailing skills. She was just how I had always imagined
Amazon to be. Finally with his bald head and 'professor' glasses, Jock
was AR's doppelgänger.

If after reading all of the above, any TarBoarders out there are misguided
enough to be interested in me, rather than the original Jock, may I refer
you to *Google and Behind the Water Tower.

*Google comes up with a whole list of people who have the same name.
Here's a clue as to which one is me. I don't wreck trains or sell candles.
