Although those Americans who read Tarboard may indeed be more likely to know both the various Victorias and the dangers of geographic illiteracy when attempting to dupe pirates, it does not make insulting generalizations any easier to swallow. Nor does "no offense" render offensive statements inoffensive.

I also submit that attempting to blot out "American" as the accepted term for citizens of the United States of America is about as futile this many centuries later as asking why Amerigo Vespucci's name should grace the Americas. I think you will find that the average Canadian, if termed "American," will issue a quick denial, although "North American" may be acceptable.

Could we please leave the mudslinging to its proper sphere, such as disguising blue dresses that could otherwise be seen for miles?
