Oh PLEASE no more on the Beckfoot plumbing! Hasn't everyone had enough of this now? Look - Arthur Ransome had an event-filled life. He grew up knowing the Collingwoods, went to London penniless to become a writer, became one, wrote some books, went to Russia, witnessed the Revolution, was possibly a spy, nearly got shot, married Trotski's secretary, got her out of Russia, sailed the Baltic, settled in the Lake District, became a journalist on the Manchester Guardian, owned a succession of sailing boats, and . . . wrote 12 all-time classic children's books, each one packed with scientific, cultural, topographical and etymological discussion points.

There's enough there to keep TarBoard going for 1,000 years. And yet we are supposed to concentrate on plumbing and breakfasts - AGAIN. To be honest I think it is a bit perverse. Ed -you of all people! You can do better than that.
