John Nichols said in a recent message:
You can go through earthquakes, two in the past six months, and still Susan will make a pot of tea.

While I'm probably nearest to Dot (without the writing ability), like her, I secretly want to emulate Susan, with her ability to keep everyone and everything on track. I was just rereading Swallowdale, and admiring once again how Susan, despite a shipwreck, managed to build a fire, get the able seamen into their bathing suits, and get everyone's clothes starting to dry. As Captain Flint said, 'Never was such a mate.' I also enjoyed the later bit, on the way to Kanchenjunga, where she convinces John and Roger that yes, they really are going to wash themselves.

Perhaps that's why I'm not quite so fond of Secret Water- Susan's strengths don't seem quite so much to the fore. The only Eel who seems to housekeep is the Mastodon.
