Posted by John Lambert;

"I haven't got access to the places and pictures that you people on the other side have, so I'll have to make do with the illustrations and imagine them the right way around. I still wouldn't recognize any of the places. (Sigh)"

I have the same problem, John, and have looked at maps and articles since back before TARS was formed. I was also fortunate enough to visit the area in 1988 before many of the location books were out, (but fortunately after the publication of Arthur Ransome and Captain Flint's Trunk).

The accidental reversal of negatives and the intentional reversal of drawings to hide locations has both complicated and opened up a whole new line of inquiry. We also know that AR frequently posed children for photographs - the so called 'Hollywoods", and that he sometimes had other artists advise him on perspectives. I think it is reasonable to assume that he did the same thing with location drawings, since it easier to draw from a photograph than it is on site.

I hope to visit the lakes again a year from this summer and I will have a list of places to go and photograph!
