I too agree with Elizabeth's comments especially regarding common courtesy.

As this is TarBoard, subject to Ian's moderation, I think the best attitude to adopt is the one AR would have used. In general he was too much of a gentleman to criticise someone. If he thought that someone had done something that he thought was wrong, he would go away and do better - as he did with his illustrators.

If I were to criticise Ed Kiser, who has developed the most useful research engine to make him the leading factual contributor to TarBoard, I would only feel that I had the authority so to do if I had also typed (or scanned nowadays) not only the 12 books but the rest of AR’s works as well.

Possibly the major problem with us all is differing perceptions of humour. Where some people can appreciate gentle humour and irony, others of us seem to need the accompaniment of canned laughter before we realise it is a joke. This may be the way we are being trained in modern life by listening to so called comedy shows on radio and TV.
