As the person who organised Ed's appearance at the TARS Literary Weekend, I must add my name to those expressing our admiration for what he has done for "All Things Ransome". The only pity was that he was unable to come over to Norwich in person. We would gladly have paid his fare, knowing in advance the terrific value he would provide.
His talk was truly memorable and affecting - many at Norwich said it was the best item of the weekend. If any TARS members reading this haven't got a copy of the 2005 Proceedings, they really should buy a copy. It lacks Ed's voice and gestures, but the script is all there.
And of course since then he has again and again provided authoritative answers to textual disputes on Tarboard. His value to our discussions is incalculable.
