The Wooden Boat Forum, to which some of us here also contribute, has the facility to allow a poster to either completely withdraw his/her post, or to edit it. If it's withdrawn, the title and date still stay in the thread but it's clear to readers that the post by So-and-So, which appeared Here, has been been withdrawn; or alternatively, at the bottom of the post appears a statement that the post has been last edited on...., and (if the poster so desires) gives the reason for the edit. It works quite well.
