Electrification from Euston to Manchester and Liverpool was completed in spring 1966. The furthest north it reached on the Glasgow line at that time was Weaver Junction, where the Liverpool line diverges, about 17 miles north of Crewe and more than 70 miles south of Oxenholme.

The next year, to spring 1967, was occupied completing the Birmingham area.

My recollection was that electrification north of Weaver Junction was not authorised until about 1970. It was completed to Preston in spring 1973 and to Glasgow in spring 1974.

However, none of this really proves anything, as route rationalisation could have taken place before 1970.
