Sorry but I can't resist pointing out the irony of this. One of the most effective ways of controlling others (which the article doesn't mention) is to be always excessively nice, and to get your niceness in first. A good way to do this is to praise others. Anyone who disagrees with you on a point is then made to look like a complete rotter, and probably feels like one, too. This strategy always works, and I'm afraid I see it on TarBoard. I once worked for a boss who was a professional 'Nice man'. I resented him far more than some of the bad-tempered types I worked for.
