There is no substitute for 1st editions in their 1st edition dust jacket.Attempts to replace the 1st dust jacket with dust jackets from early editions, use of facsimile dust jackets or extensively repaired dust jackets are for the pleasure of the owner. they do no harm but a folded note with what has been done could be helpfully enclosed within the book for the sake of subsequent owners.
