Put simply, a feminist is someone who holds the radical notion that
women are human beings (with all the rights and privileges appertaining
thereto). AR could certainly be described as a feminist author for that
very reason. I know nothing about the Canada flap but I can't count the
number of times some professor has wanted me to do a paper on his or her
own topic, not one of my own choosing, or from a perspective not my own.
That's just academia, and not peculiar to feminism.
By the way Alan, unless AR is VERY MUCH older than I think, the concept
of feminism most certainly did exist then! The Seneca Falls Convention
took place in 1848 and is considered the seminal (oval?) event of modern
feminism in the US. I don't know much about feminist history in the UK,
but my guess is that it would roughly parallel that in the US.
I'm really tired of people trashing feminism!
