Furthest versus farthest. In response to one suggestion for a title for the Australian newsletter which I typed in the inaugural February editon as "Furtherest South" Robert Thompson had kindly pointed out that it was Furthest South, a quote from Chapter 29 of S&A. However my coeditor Jan Allen had said it was FArthest South. On checking page 319 of my 'New Edition type reset 1958' Jonathan Cape edition (with the slippers)I found furthest south but I was sure my son had commented on the usage FArthest in bedtime readings so I looked elsewhere. The corresponding text on page 331 of a 1970 Puffin reprint I find farthest south.
This poses a problem for the editors. North Pole News had it easy!
