I think the "North Pole" was the greatest of the AR novel sanctuaries. For the D's it was a real sanctuary from the snowstorm, for the S&A's a place to rest in reasonable comfort after the strenuous treck.
Possiblby the SD cave was a real sanctuary for CF when he was young.
