I agree with this post, and I have been using the 'Latest messages' page pretty well since I started to read Tarboard.
If I need to go back up a thread, it's easy to do this using 'Find' for the thread title (or the poster's name, whichever is best at the time).
If it's so far back that it has dropped off 'Latest messages', then there's always Tarboard itself. But that's very rare in my experience- and every visit to the full Tarboard reminds me of why I prefer 'Latest messages'.
