I'm sure it expresses AR's own thoughts about arriving back in the Lake District and Lanehead when he was young.

But I do agree that AR's drawing the parallel between the personalities of Nancy and Maria Turner is one of the mature pleasures of this late book.

I feel that PM is the real final book in the series. GN is all very well and has some good moments, but for my money PM is where he pulls the threads of his characters together. His love of the Lake District and his involvement with those particular characters- the Ds and the Amazons- finally say all he had to say.
