Being both an American and a science fiction fan, I immediately went to check the site. I agree with the author's suggestions, and have enjoyed many of the books she listed. Personally, while I'm glad the author recommended the SA series, I wouldn't class it as fantasy- there are no signs for instance, that we are in some sort of alternate universe*, and there's not a dragon in sight. Perhaps the classification is another sign of how much the world has changed: Allowing children to sail and camp BY THEMSELVES?- this couldn't possibly happen in the 'real world.'

* My personal version of The Swallows and Amazons grow up have them inhabiting a nice, peaceful world, where Missie Lee's pirates are the most dangerous thing for John on his ship and Roger on his aircraft carrier to worry about. Definitely alternate history!
