I think we can probably all agree on cooking!! I saw a recipe mentioned earlier for bunloaf (as published in one of the TARSUS newsletters - thank you Elizabeth?) and have been itching to try it, despite a rather hazy notion of what bunloaf actually is. I also tried making ginger beer a couple of months ago but it tasted more like yeast juice with ginger bits. The kids made gallant efforts to enjoy it (and didn't spend too long on the lavatory either) but my wife was rather more honest in her appraisal and has been none to keen to see the episode repeated.

Generally though, my efforts have been to produce the sort of "life essential" savoury foods we can't get (or easily get anyway) in darkest Connecticut such as pork pies, cumberland sausage, cornish pasties, sausage rolls, etc. That's NOT to say we eat this sort of stuff exclusively... and it's not to say we haven't found the odd version over here - but when we do they never seem to be quite right (like pasties enhanced with banana, or sausages with a hint of cinnamon) and it's been something of a revelation to find that you can actually produce quite realistic results yourself when your cravings drive you to desperate lengths. Thankfully the Red Cross send us PG Tips, Bovril and chcolate Hob Nobs on a regular basis, the kids listening out for the plane for hours outside.

Cheers
Luke
