Bridget had whooping cough? Wasn't there a quarantine period for whooping cough too? It may not be a serious as mumps but it can still affect people. Why were the Swallows allowed to travel the length of the country without a single yellow flag among them possibly spreading the plague and also taking a chance on infecting the Amazons and the innocent D's.
I suppose the Walkers could all have had whooping cough during an earlier epidemic.
