As Ed found, I misremembered and it was Nancy who had the wrist watch. In any event, tomboys like Nancy and Peggy would certainly have found the "feminine"alternative to a wrist watch, a pendant watch, totally unacceptable for their active lifestyle.

One does wonder, however, when Nancy first got a watch. Perhaps when she became old enough for them to go haring about on their own she was given her father's (of whatever type) as an inheritance? In that case, a wrist watch might have been a more likely candidate than a pocket watch, as less unsuitable for a girl to carry.

Presumably they wouldn't have been given as much rein by Mrs. Blackett and Capt. Flint during SD if they didn't have some means of checking the time, although it's John who looked at a watch to discover how late they were during the attack/hound trail debacle. And Peggy was counting down the time to the starting gun at the start of the race; as allym quotes, the watch was in her hand. This might have been either a pocket watch or Nancy's wrist watch, which she would have handed to Peggy to count down while she concentrated on maneuvering Amazon for the start.
