Bass Strait, the stretch of water between Tassie and the mainland is 200 miles wide, and very unpredictable in sea conditions. The weather from the Southern Ocean gets squeezed between Tassie and Victoria, and the depth of water suddenly shallows to 60m, so things get very rough very quickly. The vicar who bought her must have some very good connections, because he told me that he had to motor for most of the overnight trip across 'The Ditch' because of a lack of wind.
