I've heard that in the early decades of the 20th century, Chaminade's works were very popular among people learning the piano, or at least among those who decided what pieces the learners were required to play. So I think the GA's taste was meant to be conventional for her age.
One week last June, as I mentioned here at the time, Chaminade and Augusta Holmes were joint Composers of the Week on BBC Radio 3. The programmes are no longer available online, but she'll probably come round again some time. Major composers come round about once a year, obscurer ones at longer intervals.
