Not to long ago I (re)read Missee Lee, and at the beginning
there is mention of them sucking oranges. I didn't think too
much of it, assuming that it had something to do with the heat.
However just on the weekend I finished (re)reading Great Northern
(it's been years if not decades since I picked up that one)
and in that one I noticed that there is again a fairly clear description
of Roger sucking an orange.
Is this yet another "British-ism" from early in the century?
Why didn't they just eat the oranges?
