Good point, and I'd forgotten that. My thought was more that the parents aren't going to the AP/attorney to protest the unfair treatment of their sons- it's left to Dorothea to do that. I'm sure that Ransome wrote it this way to (as usual) get the parents out of the way, so that the children could be explorers, pirates, etc. From a real world point of view, it looks kind of neglectful. If Not Duffers, Won't Be Convicted?
