The theme of sanctuaries in AR is present in all his manifold works and MUST HAVE HAD SOME SPECIAL MEANING TO AR.
I suspect that AR knew that sanctuaries had a special meaning for his readership. All children love to hide out of sight. He undoubtedly knew that, so that's what he wrote about.
