Owen -

I have an old Bowman 4-4-0, but in a state of disrepair as I tried to make it more of an SM32 outline many years ago. It is a sort of cheaper version of the Bassett Lowke, with oscillating single acting cylinders, but it does still work. It's hugely overscale for 0 gauge of course.

You can see my little Hornby clockwork engine in the right background to Peter's photograph. I date it to about 1922, because it still has brass buffers (but only four not the eight that the first models in 1920 had), and the livery is plain maroon with MLd on the sides (Meccano Limited) rather than any railway company's initials. I've also made Furness Railway coach sides which I've glued onto plywood frames, in the style of the old litho papers, which go well with it.

Maybe at a TARS IAGM I'll bring my Hornby track, stock and S&A scenic items. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a lot of visiting clockwork engines!

Rob
