You would expect to find the suffix "thwaite" in Cumbria and N Yorkshire. It is of Viking derivation, meaning a clearing, ie place of habitation (Britain was mainly forested before 1000 AD). Cumbria is particularly rich in Viking terms, such as scree, keld, beck etc.
