I wonder if there is any connection between the esteemed figure of Sir Garnet and the late, lamented motor-car which bears his name? If his name came to represent everything that was in good order and/or the very best quality, I could imagine a company wanting to associate their product with him. It would be a very early example of the sponsorship of a product by a public figure, although I doubt that Sir Garnet would have wanted anything to do with it.
