We're planning a trip to the Lakes from the US in December and I too wanted to find out whether the museum would be open. I sent an email to the info@abbothall.org.uk address that Rob has suggested and did indeed get a reply from a lady called Francis a few days later. I'm afraid the email has since dropped off my system otherwise I'd give you her direct address, but it's definately worth sending a mail to the "info" address.
