When I was a student at Cambridge the end of the 60s, immediately before the introduction of decimal currency, 6s 8d was the standard fine levied by the proctors for minor rule-breaking by students. Or for more serious offences, twice that, 13s 4d. At least, that's what the rules said - I have no recollection of anyone I knew getting fined.
