Have any of you eyeball burners read AR's account of the last great solar slideshow some seventy odd years ago? AR thought that the preternatural darkness might induce the fish to bite. Why? I can't remember. It sounds like an excuse to me. Anyway, off he toddled with rod and line, to attempt to tempt trout out of a favourite tarn. I'll leave you to read the results for yourselves, at least until I can put my hands on my copy of' 'Ransome on Fishing' which, I assume, is an edition of 'Rod and Line'. This contains many gems including an article on tackle shops, which if the words 'fishing' and 'tackle' were substituted for 'climbing' and 'gear' would describe members of my mountaineering club so well that I suspect AR of lurking in some corner of Jo Royle's of Buxton.
