Robert -
I was with a group of another 10 TARS who got to the top (just) on the 11th, as part of a party of 21 to celebrate a fiftieth birthday. We parked at the car park at Walna Scar, leaving at 11.00, and also went by Goat Water. By the time we got to the top the weather was foul - not just wet but very windy too - so the planned ginger beer toast did not happen there. I have to say, neither did my planned overnight (half-way) camp the night before happen!
My thoughts are that through Tarboard, this could be a regular commemorative walk, open to anyone who was around the Lake District or in travelling distance on 11 August. We could simply meet up at Walna Scar car park at say 10.00 or 11.00 (as agreed on Tarboard) with some indication that we were there for the walk - a pirate flag for example.
Some radical alternative thinkers might of course meet up on the 2nd instead - or as well.
