And it's far more about Nancy being grown-up than feminine/domesticated, but I was just wondering if there were aspects of the two elements that, in the '30s were inextricable. I simply don't know that era well enough.
And again, yes: Nancy in SW is out of character and a pain in the tail. Then again, I have always felt that John is a bit stodgy in SW, too, even if he is under the pressure of performing for his father. I love the cartography of SW --after reading it, I went out with a hand compass and a 100' tape and mapped the island I lived on-- but I just don't connect with the characters so well.
