It seems that lately I have been agreeing nonstop with previous posts. such as the last two. Well, here goes again. It never struck me that the series was just for boys. How would the reviewer account for Nancy, Peggy, Titty, Susan and Dorothea?
Perhaps we love the books because we were not brought up on exploding cars, frantic chases, oddly-costumed characters defying the laws of physics and hulking creatures holding the world to ransom (pun not intended). AR's characters are believable and his plots credible. They could really happen; whereas Spiderman, Superman, Harry Potter etc. are preposterous. They have no literary antecdents, which might excuse some of their exploits. Dialogue is virtually unknown and character development non-existent. I can sense a rant approaching, so I had better stop.
