Many of you will have seen the news reports of flooding, presented from Burneside in Cumbria. This is about half a mile from my house, and the houses opposite me back onto the River Kent. The water has come right up to these houses which means their cellars will be flooded. In Kendal, the river is fairly much canalised but the water is within inches of overflowing the banks. All in all, a horrendous time and with more rain to come. The River Kent is recognised as the fastest flowing river in England - today it has more than justified that title.
