There was a thread some months ago about the pronunciation, origins
and relative rarity of the name Dorothea. It does indeed have four
syllables, but as our Dorothea is English, not German, I would expect
her first syllable to be shorter than "door", and the vowel in her
third syllable to be EE rather than AY. Really, pretty much like
"Dorothy? Uh!", except that the stress is on the third syllable.

Since the earlier thread I've looked out for mentions of people called
Dorothea in real life, and have encountered references three or four
such ladies, in addition to the one or two I already remembered
hearing of.
