I've just put together a tiny open wooden canoe (11ft 6ins)with a bamboo pole sailing rig and a whacking great leeboard. Tried it for the first time yesterday afternoon on a little lake here in Manchester - and it works wonderfully, if a little shaky. Ah well, better drowned than a duffer! It's 90% B&Q in origin but I've varnished it darkly...and it looks old. I think AR would approve. Am taking it to Horning in a couple of weeks. Maybe he'll be looking down at me from those wide skies...

Incidentally, re Doctor Who chat. There's a company in Crewe manufacturing very authentic daleks and tardises. They're on the net if you type in "dalek".
