Its usually fine when you are out sailing but if you are among the trees and anywhere in the evening you do get numbers of biting insects, mostly mosquitoes but also flies.
If you are sitting out in the evening it is a good idea to use some sort of insect repellent. I remember being anchored off Beausoleil Island one evening and being driven out of the cockpit by mosquitoes coming off the land in the calm evening. Luckily my friend's boat had mesh over the portholes so we could get some air at night.
