I am told by Peter Roche that the National Committee of TARS allocated money to purchase a copy from the BBC but when the can was opened, the film proved useless. I suppose it is possible the original could be restored but I suspect the cost would be extremely high as (if I understand correctly) even today the process is not fully automated and requires a lot of individual involvement on almost a cell by cell basis. I do not know what eventually became of the sadly useless copy of the film.
